- Session cookie – these cookies are erased when you close your web browser. They are stored in temporary memory and the browser does not retain them after it is closed. Information from your computer does not get collected in session cookies. Most commonly they store information in the form of a session identification that does not personally identify the user.
- Persistent cookie – these cookies are stored on your hard drive until it expires (persistent cookies are set with expiration dates) or until you delete the cookie. Persistent cookies are used to collect identifying information about the user, such as Web surfing behaviour or user preferences for a specific Web site.
